ORGANIC ARABICA

Organic Peruvian Arabica

Peruvian coffee holds a unique place in the realm of high-quality coffee due to its flavor profiles, agronomic conditions and sustainable farming practices. Cultivated in the high-altitude regions of the Andes mountains, our organic Peruvian coffee benefits from an optimal combination of altitude, climate and soil composition. Our beans exhibit a smooth citric acidity, floral aromatic compounds and balanced sweetness.

An important characteristic of our Peruvian coffee is the prevalent use of organic farming methods. This approach not only ensures a purer, chemical-free product but also maintains the biodiversity and health of the soil microbiome, contributing to long-term soil fertility and ecosystem stability.

These practices are critical for the development of Not Your Average coffee's distinct flavor profiles as they prevent defects and enhance desirable sensory attributes.

POTENT SUPERFOODS

Superfoods

The science behind consuming superfoods is rooted in their rich composition of bioactive compounds, which offer a range of health benefits. Superfoods like Maca Root, Ashwagandha, Lucuma and many more, are dense in nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that contribute to overall health and well-being.

Antioxidants are also a key component. These molecules neutralize free radicals which are unstable molecules that can cause oxidative stress and damage cells. By reducing oxidative stress, antioxidants help protect against chronic diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease and neurodegenerative disorders. For instance, the polyphenols in raw cacao and coffee have been shown to improve cognitive function and delay brain aging (found in our Choco Loco blend).

Another critical aspect of superfoods is their anti-inflammatory properties. Chronic inflammation is a common pathway for many diseases including heart disease, diabetes and arthritis. Green tea, for example, has potent anti-inflammatory effects and has been extensively studied for its ability to modulate inflammatory pathways and reduce markers of inflammation.

MCT oil, derived from coconut or palm oil, is rich in medium-chain triglycerides. It promotes weight loss by increasing feelings of fullness and boosting metabolism. Additionally, MCT oil also supports brain health, providing quick energy for cognitive functions and potentially aiding in the management of neurological disorders like Alzheimer's.

Lucuma, a Peruvian fruit, has a low glycemic index, making it a healthy sweetener option for managing blood sugar levels.

In summary, the science behind superfoods lies in their dense concentration of nutrients and bioactive compounds that work synergistically to promote health, prevent disease and enhance overall physiological function.

THIRD PARTY TESTING

Third Party Testing

At Not Your Average, we pride ourselves on the high quality of our coffee. One way we ensure this is through rigorous toxin testing, an essential process that protects our customers from harmful substances like mycotoxins, pesticides and heavy metals.

The process begins with sampling beans from various regions within Peru to obtain a representative analysis. These samples are cleaned, dried and ground into a fine powder for accurate testing. We then use solvents such as water, methanol, or acetonitrile to isolate toxins from the coffee matrix.

Advanced techniques, including high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), detect and quantify mycotoxins and pesticides. Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) is used to analyze heavy metals. These highly sensitive methods can detect even trace amounts of contaminants.

Throughout the process, strict quality control measures are maintained. We use standard reference materials, conduct replicate tests and employ internal controls to ensure accuracy and reliability. The results are compiled into a detailed report, comparing toxin levels to regulatory limits set by agencies like the FDA and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).

Based on these results, we decide whether the batch meets our high standards of quality. If it does, we feel 100% confident that it is of a sufficiently high standard to offer to our loyal customers.
